New Super Channel Quest Original documentary series explores whether history’s greatest mysteries may finally be within reach

EDMONTON (August 18, 2026) – Some mysteries refuse to stay buried. Priceless treasures disappear without a trace. Entire armies vanish into the desert. Ancient engineering feats continue to defy explanation. Centuries later, historians, archaeologists, and researchers are still searching for answers.

Premiering Monday, September 14 at 9 p.m. ET with a special two-episode debut, Shadows & Dust is a new eight-part, one-hour Super Channel Quest Canadian Original documentary series that revisits some of history's most enduring mysteries, exploring the famous people, places, and artifacts that have seemingly vanished from the historical record.

Blending historical investigation with cinematic storytelling, each episode reconstructs the final moments before these mysteries slipped into legend. Using archival material, ancient artwork, dramatic recreations, state-of-the-art CGI, and expert analysis, the series revisits the evidence. Historians, journalists, archaeologists and leading specialists challenge long-held theories and examine how advances in archaeology and digital reconstruction are uncovering new perspectives on the past.

Among the mysteries explored throughout the series are

  • Russia's legendary Amber Room, believed to have been looted by the Nazis during the Second World War
  • The disappearance of the Florentine Diamond following the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire;
  • The enduring mystery of hijacker D.B. Cooper, who vanished after parachuting from a passenger jet with a $200,000 ransom;
  • The lost formula behind the remarkably resilient concrete used to build Rome's Pantheon;
  • The search for Jesus' Lost Tomb;
  • The fate of the lost army of Cambyses, where 50,000 Persian soldiers are believed to have disappeared into the Egyptian desert;
  • And more…

As new discoveries continue to reshape our understanding of the past, Shadows & Dust invites viewers to reconsider what we know - and what may still be waiting to be uncovered.

“There is something universally compelling about the questions that continue to defy explanation,” said Kim Ball, EVP, Content & Communications, Super Channel. “Shadows & Dust offers the kind of immersive, thought-provoking documentary storytelling that sparks curiosity, fuels conversation and reminds us why these stories have captivated people for generations. We’re proud to once again partner with Go Button Media and ZDF Studios to bring this series to Super Channel Quest audiences.”

Shadows & Dust is produced by Go Button Media. German producer-distributor ZDF Studios commissioned the series and is handling global sales.

Toronto-headquartered Go Button Media, ZDF Studios and Super Channel previously collaborated on Into the Universe: The Secrets of the Cosmos Uncovered.
